mmm, just for ass... grand hoochie skank rose

| In the driver's seat.... |
[Jun. 14th, 2009|12:59 am] |
Over here at the den I am in the driver's seat. ... the theme of this party, the 24 hour race of Le Mans. Link here if your unfamiliar of the race. The quick gist of the race is that its a 24 hour race, and here at the Wolf Den where the party is at, someone has to be awake and in the "driver seat" in front of the TV. I am in the seat at approximately 1AM (US PST local time) till... who knows. From here I am only going to discover how much it sucks to be stuck in a chair when I need to refill my drink or pee.

| The Last Month... |

| | happy | ] | Wow, I just never use this thing. I am going to make an effort to use this LJ more often. So to recap whats been going on with me the last month. First I had the cutest foxcat, amranx, staying with me for the first couple of weeks in May. He did seem to constantly get into trouble and I've had to go find him more then once. ;) But glad he visited anyway.
Work wise, I was engaged with only one tour recently. I worked with FleetWood Mac as a lighting tech for their most recent tour. I honestly couldn't say there was anything special about this tour, except to say lightly that FleetWood Mac is quite difficult to work for. Technically, the lighting set up was quite a simple setup as much of the lighting was conventional.

That's it for now, I promise to write more often in my journal.

| | calm | ] | mmm... a new study out for this year from the National Sleep Foundation had found that Americans sleep less. Wow, who would have thought. :p
National Sleep Survey:
Americans that get less then 6 hours of sleep: 2009: 20% 2002: 15% 1998: 12%
Americans that get more then 8 hours of sleep: 2009: 28% 2002: 30% 1998: 35%
National average of hours slept per night: 2009: 6.7 hours 2001: 7 hours
Dr. David Schulman, the medical director of the Emory Clinic Sleep Disorders laboratory in Atlanta, Georgia, has linked sleep deprivation to chronic alcoholism. "When you're chronically drunk, you can't tell when you're drunk," he said "If you're chronically sleep deprived, you can't tell when you're sleepy. You lose the ability to detect how tired you are. It's not unusual to fall asleep behind the wheel."
Damn it, there on to me. :p
Terk's Sleep Survey: 3/2/09: 3 hours 3/3/09: 4 hours 3/4/09: 4 hours 3/5/09: 3 hours 3/6/09: 7 hours (got to sleep in)
Nightly average: 4.2 hours
I'm ahead of the curve! :D |

Its been awhile since I have updated my LJ, but I have been such a busy wolf. With being busy, that only means I have been working on some busy projects. First off I have quite recently moved into a new big house. Its not much of a geographic change, but in the new place I certainly have alot more room to put all my things in. I am actually excited about moving into a house instead of another apartment. The space and freedom of not being quiet is quite a refreshing change. And I am not staying in this big house all by myself, northing is still my roommate and we added a third canine to the wolf den, FirePup, which he will be transitioned in soon. And with a couple of party animals like us (well me and North anyway) and all that space, parties are bound to happen and soon!
The next project I have been working on has been a big one. I have kept this one quiet for awhile, but I have recently started a new business, Sirius Entertainment. Plenty of the internet surfers that read my LJ know I have been working on short lags of tours for quite a few musical acts, assisting on lighting and sound. And though it is an interesting experience working for the large tours, its only setting up and building sets that meet the requirements to the lighting designer. And while I enjoy setting up the equipment to do that, I have always really wanted to design all the aspects of the lighting and special effects. So while in the mean time I will still take quick contract jobs to assist installing lights, data and power cabling everywhere, I now work privately in lighting and effects design and Sirius Entertainment was formed to represent the services I provide in concert lighting at the professional level, and to provide sound and stage engineering for smaller customers and venues. Since its starting the business its been quite an adventure since. Business has literally taken off for me. The demand has pushed me to the point of hiring outside help in taking care of some of my business end duties while I concentrate more on the lighting design aspect. I know there is a huge uphill battle to steal some space in the entertainment industry, but I really look forward to it. Sirius was formed originally as a hobby business that didn't get much time to lay a foundation, so I better start building one with quick dry cement.
And speaking of lighting and concerts, I'll share alittle bit about my latest round of working for the tours. I finished over the weekend a short tour lag with country artist Brad Paisley on the last end of his 2009 tour. Of the 'big' shows I have worked, his was probably the smallest one I have done so far. Though when it came to the lighting, it certainly was advanced in some areas. Particularly the show used alot of Element Labs Versa Tubes, which are basically LEDs lights in a line and covered by a frosted plastic lens over them. And what makes them impressive over other LED systems I have worked with, its their controls, which is mostly handled though multiple networks of many small computer processors all hooked to a large video processor/server. Set up wasn't overly complicated of these systems, but there was alot of cable that had to be set up.
For most of the actual show I was hiding away backstage watching the video crews screens catching a good view of everything going on. The picture below was during system set up before the show.
Close to the end of the show I spend time near the sound mixer boards on stage right so I would be close to the stage when tear down would begin after the encore. The show ran alittle late and the trucks had to be on the road at 2am headed for the next city so tear down for any show is a mess of chaos.
After it all came together, all those LED fixtures and all the wires strung everywhere, the visuals from my piece of the puzzle turned out nice. :D

| | tired | ] | Though a little late, I wanted to make a quick little post on how my last weekend went. It is quite worthy of mention.
Last weekend I set off to work again on a short contract job for again lighting and electrical work, though I also ended up helping out with some carpentry for the stage as well, but I did it for AC/DC who passed through last Sunday night.
< EDITED: IMAGES REMOVED >
There was alot of work to be done for this show, but strangely it all ran quite efficient. The lighting thankfully was already mounted to the trussing and mainly the work was hauling the 40 foot truss sections out of the trucks, bolting them together and laying all the electrical and data cabling out and attaching everything.
< EDITED: IMAGES REMOVED >
One of the coolest props for the show was the crazy 'Rock and Roll Train'. The thing is so heavy, breaks into like four 40 foot sections and is actually quite fragile. But still it was the biggest bitch of a prop to build.
< EDITED: IMAGES REMOVED >
And did I mention that their was alot of pyrotechnics attached to it? In this picture is shooting out random flames. The train had many gas outlets for spraying natural gas fireballs from a large tank that sits just inside the train's body.
During the show for the most part I was hugged against the edge of stage left and watched the show just feet away, which really was cool. It was a great atmosphere that night too. Most of the audience was drinking a lot (was an open drinking show) and really getting into the music. The show only had few negatives, me having muffled hearing for a few days after show because the speakers were very loud and over my head, and missing a lot of sleep taking down everything after the show and having to go to my other job just a few hours afterward.
... was an amazing experience. |

Work this weekend...
This weekend I joined up with the road crew for New Kids on the Block tour. Can't believe they got back together. At one point when I was asked if I wanted to do the tour just for Seattle, I looked up their new material to see what has changed, and despite reviews saying they changed their style, hearing their new CD and live, I don't think much as changed; well other than that they are now a 40+ year old boyband. :p
Anyway, so I worked Saturday all day and some into Sunday early morning. My primary role was handling the live sound equipment. So I hoisted up the speakers on the chain hoists and set up all the many amps, soundboards and mega mess of wiring. An interesting development was when the Fire Marshalls came through to inspect everything because their was heavy use of pyrotechnics in the show. Some of the senior crew apparently forgot about "fire lanes" which is the space of clearance for panicked people to run around. So I spent alot of time helping other departments with wiring and moving equipment to make the extra 30 feet walkway needed on the sides of the stage during the set up phase.
Some pictures of the stage that I helped set up (particularly the LED lights behind):
< EDITED: IMAGES REMOVED >
One of the few things that made the NKOTB concert bearable was the many uses of pyro and cryro (CO2) effects (as seen above). Which those things are just expensive add ons to make any show far better. Always have to love the cryro jets, 5 seconds later the cold air come back down and feels awesome. :p
As for the guys in New Kids on the Block, I really didn't get to meet them. The only time I spent around them was when they were walking to and from the stage. I only got a small wave when they seen me backstage wearing a local crew t-shirt and pass.
Later this week I join in with the AC/DC road crew... which that should be interesting as I should be surrounded by rock roadies, and then in the middle of December I join up with the road crew of Sarah Brightman. |

I had an awesome weekend. First of all I worked this weekend, so you would probably immediately think that wouldn’t be the case. But I have been stretching myself out and have been working a 2nd job in my spare time. I have been working as a lighting and audio technician for touring concert and stage shows. This particular weekend I worked for Celine Dion’s World Tour on its stop in the Pacific Northwest. It was a bit fun working for the show as the sheer volume (and quality) of equipment that needed to be set up. This weekend I handled stacking the speakers up and hoisting them up on the chain lifts from the trussing, and making sure the speakers worked. I also hanged rows of lighting on the trusses.
< EDITED: IMAGES REMOVED >
What really stood out to make my weekend a little special was after the set up was finished and the musicians were going through sound check, I got called to do a show call, which basically means to work during the performance. At the time, little did I know that would mean was actually going to be working under the stage and on the stage during the performance. The stadium center staging was hollow and had many dressing rooms underneath it. And got to navigate props around inside the stage and bring them onstage and off. The best part though was being on stage with Celine Dion as she was singing and while was either standing next to her or moving props. It was an awesome feeling to be within literally arm’s length of her as she was holding some long notes. I am not really a fan of her music, but there was something special about being there on stage with the most successful female artist ever.
After meeting Celine, I can say she is actually quite nice, happy, and has a lot of energy. < EDITED: IMAGES REMOVED > |

| | happy | ] | Ah the weekend finally for me. I am lucky enough to have this Thursday and Friday off, and then the nice weekend to follow it. Was great getting to sleep in today. Rolled out of bed in the late morning and thought about what I should do today. Work has been very hard on me lately so I thought I could use a nice treat for myself. I drove down to the car dealership district of western Washington State, and I drove some nice cars around that were not mine.
My closer friends know that I have been looking at buying a new car. And at the top of the list was the new Pontiac G8 GT. Out of what I drove today, it was the best one. Its such a tempting buy. I posted a full review under the cut below.

| | content | ] | Wow what an interesting party last night. The original concept was drinking liquor and measuring the BAC content on my breathalyzer, and comparing drive times on our race car simulator. As the evening progressed, less and less emphasis was made on the driving and more towards seeing what BAC levels people had as they become more intoxicated.
Top 3 BACs:
northing: .156 (shitfaced and then unconscious)
higejmt/Hige: .145 (shitfaced and then unconscious)
twigmouse: .104
And... North woke up the next morning, 12:30pm, still being at BAC .087, being quite impressive since he went unconscious 9 hours before.
Still we had great fun. But wont be as much fun as AnthroCon. :D I fly out late Wednesday and will arrive at the hotel around noon on Thursday. |

| | happy | ] | Its been 3 days so far into my new position at my company. I actually have been having alot of fun with going over data entry and typeing up legal documents to be files with the US State Department. With already being familar with the company's computer system, I have been able easily learn all my new procedures.
Along with my new desk position, I have two more fun things to look forward to. AC is just about a week away before I catch my flight to Pittsburg. And also this weekend, me and my roommate, northing, are hosting the 'drinking and driving party'. The party's plan is to have everyone attending drinking only their choich of 80 proof liquor, keeping track of how shots taken, measuring the BAC content on my breathalyzer, and comparing drive times on our race car simulator. This party is looking to be a blast. |

| | Drunk | ] | I had a great weekend up in Canada. I stayed with siku_wolf over the weekend for a nice visit in Vancouver, Canada. We spent a bit of our time carrying on our small tradition of doing alittle drinking on Friday evening. On Saturday we met up with scribble_fox and I had a bit of modifications made to my fursuit. So look to see if any of you will notice any changes made to my suit for AC.
Otherwise my drive home Sunday afternoon was actually quite quick. Quick border times and low traffic. Made it home and had a few cocktails with northing and a friend over. I am actually making his post quite intoxicated, but I thought I should repeat a quote made this evening:
Terk: "How drunk can we be? I am wearing an Indiana Jones hat and smoking a (fake) cigarette and your wearing two hats."
North: "I'm wearing two hats?" *North reaches and pulls the second hat off his head* |

| | content | ] | Just for the sake of keeping my LJ active, here is alittle update on whats been happening with me.
At my current job, I was approched by an supervisor about taking a new position in another department. They offered me a generous raise to take on the new position in handleing part invoicing and export lience paperwork between our company and the State Department. I should be all done in training my replacement by the end of this week and will start on my new job next monday. Still working on that grand career goal though on the side.
Also, yesterday me and my roommate, northing, resigned our lease for another 8 months, so we'll be living in the same place till the end of Feburary 2009. |

| | tired | ] | Wow what a hot weekend it was over here on the west coast. Tempratures were well into the 90s in Portland, Oregon, where I was visiting for the weekend. Was quite a change compared to a few days just before this quick heatwave. Which was rainy and had us in the much cooler 40s and 50s degrees (F). But I didn't let the sudden heat ruin my weekend, I had a great time attending a party while down in Oregon. I even got to try out my new toy I just bought, a new breathalyzer. Was quite fun to test the unit out on a few people at the party. I'll be more then likely hosting the "breathalyzer" party soon, where everyone will be drinking one shot or beer at a time and seeing what their BAC level is.
In other news, it is official, I won't be able to attend AC this year. Airline tickets have just risen too sharply for me to warrent $600-$700 overall cost to attending a con just for 3 days; approx. cost of the airline tickets at the moment are $600 for me. |
